The Inflated Head of Columbus, Old San Juan, Puerto Rico

Amani Kites was a public art project in Nairobi, Kenya created through the smARTpower Program – an initiative of the Bronx Museum of the Arts and the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State. 15 U.S. artists were selected to create community-based art projects in 15 countries around the world.

Luciano worked with artists and communities in Nairobi, Kenya where participants created large-scale, handmade kites featuring life-sized photographic self-portraits. As participants flew their kites they raised their own likeness into the sky above, forming the basis of a series of conversations about flying and freedom.
